Move from your Stripe account to TaxDome Payments (Beta)

If your firm accepts payments through its own Stripe account, you can move to TaxDome Payments . TaxDome creates a new TaxDome Payments account for your firm, pre-filled with the details from your Stripe account. You activate it, and your clients’ saved cards, bank accounts and autopay on recurring invoices move over automatically.

Note

The move to TaxDome Payments is currently available for firms in the US.

Activate your TaxDome Payments account

When your new TaxDome Payments account is ready, your firm receives an invitation email, and a banner appears in TaxDome. Team members see the banner as a reminder to ask the firm owner or an admin to activate the account.

Activating the account requires the firm owner or admin role and your existing Stripe login. Once you receive the invitation email:

  1. Click Activate account in the invitation email or on the Stripe card in Settings.

  2. Sign in to Stripe with your existing login.

  3. Review the pre-filled details. Stripe carries over your business details and payout account from your current Stripe account.

  4. Accept the Terms.

Stripe usually reviews the account within seconds. If Stripe asks for documents, upload them directly in TaxDome.

What happens after you activate

Moving your clients’ saved payment methods takes about a week. In the meantime:

  • Keep accepting payments through your current Stripe account as usual—there’s no payment downtime.

  • Settings shows a message that the move is in progress. The option to disconnect Stripe is hidden until the switch.

  • Your clients don’t need to do anything.

When the copy is ready, TaxDome switches your firm to TaxDome Payments and re-links saved payment methods on recurring invoices and proposals. You get a confirmation email when the switch is done.

Payments that are already in progress at the switch, such as a recurring payment that ran just before it, finish on your previous Stripe account. Their status still updates in TaxDome.

Fees and free ACH

After the switch, TaxDome Payments fees apply.

ACH payments are free through January 31 for every firm that moves. Free ACH is added automatically at the switch, and standard fees apply again from February 1. You don’t need to sign anything.

With TaxDome Payments, your firm can also use:

Your previous Stripe account after the move

Question Answer
Where are payments, payouts and refunds from before the move? In your previous Stripe account. In the Stripe Dashboard, click the account name at the top left and switch accounts. Payout history isn’t transferred to the new account.
How do I refund a payment made before the move? In your previous Stripe Dashboard. The refund isn’t shown in TaxDome.
Where do disputes on earlier payments go? To your previous Stripe account. Check it for up to 180 days after the move.
Can I close my previous Stripe account? Keep it open until the refund and dispute window for earlier payments has passed—up to 180 days after the move. Refunds and disputes for those payments can only be handled there.
Will I get payouts from two accounts? For a short time, yes. Payments still processing on your previous account pay out as usual, and new payments pay out from TaxDome Payments. Payout speed is the same.
I use my Stripe account outside TaxDome too. Your TaxDome Payments account works only inside TaxDome. Keep your previous Stripe account for anything outside TaxDome.
Nobody at my firm can sign in to Stripe. Contact Stripe Support to regain access to your Stripe account, then activate.
