Tax return delivery reference

This article lists the sections that make up a tax return delivery and what each status means while you’re tracking it .

Tax return delivery sections

The tax return delivery consists of the following parts, listed in the Set up the delivery package panel on the left of the editor:

Section Description
a. Split full document into groups A step where you split the tax return into Highlights, Signature pages, and Payment vouchers groups. It also shows the full document and how many pages are in groups.
b. Intro An introductory context and client-facing explanations that help review the document and reduce the need for additional follow-up questions.
c. Tax summary A step where you add taxes owed, refunds, and estimated payments. Your client sees the Highlights pages first, next to this summary.
d. Approval An optional confirmation step where the client reviews and approves the tax return, or requests changes, before signing.
e. Signature requests A section where you can place your signature and insert placeholders for the client’s signature.
f. Invoice An attached invoice the client pays at the point in the delivery you choose—see invoice placement .
g. Link jobs An internal step, not visible to the client. The delivery package becomes a linked action on the job, so the job can move to its next stage once the client approves and signs.

Note

All sections are optional—you can skip any of them if there’s nothing to include.

Section statuses

While a tax return delivery is in Draft, each section in the left panel shows a status. Once you send the delivery, statuses are hidden, except for Approval if the client requests changes.

Status Description
Not included The section is empty and won’t be part of the package your client receives.
Ready The section is set up and will be included in the package.
Needs review The section needs your attention—for example, signature pages have no signature fields, the invoice placement refers to a step that isn’t in the package, the client requested changes, or AI found conflicting amounts in the tax summary (Beta).
Not linked Shown for Link jobs only—the delivery isn’t linked to any job yet.

Tax return delivery statuses

To check the status of your tax return deliveries, go to Clients > Accounts > Documents > Tax return delivery. Progress is tracked across four independent columns: Status, Invoice, Approval, and Signature. The table also shows the document name, when the delivery was created, when the document was uploaded, and the reminders status.
